So why a running blog?

I am a runner. After a year of waking up early, hitting the road, entering races and racking up the miles, I can finally call myself a runner. It took me a while to realize it, but it's true. I am a runner. I'm also a writer.

Last year, I became a runner in my training for the Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon in Duluth, MN. I was motivated to do the race for several reasons, which you can read about here. During that training I realized a lot of things. I realized that running works for me. I love the structure and the discipline. I love the exploration that happens with planning new routes. More than anything, I love the time it gives me to think. That time to think was captured in a fundraising blog chronicling my efforts to raise $2000 for the American Cancer Society. I realized the connection between running and running for a reason. My blog was popular, my friends were generous. I was invited to write for the ACS DetermiNation national blog. I was a writer!

I wrote detailed descriptions of my runs and their consequences. I was raising lots of money. People were reading my posts every day. Then I accidentally erased it. Then I stopped writing.

Then my whole life was turned upside down and inside out. Running helped, but I wasn't writing. So, I've started a new blog. About running. And life.

I hope you like it.
